Introducing The Better Now Shift™
A New Program for Individuals and Organizations Navigating Great Challenges
This newsletter has a new name. Its goal is the same: Foster and support a growing community of people who want to create a “Better Now” through clarity, courage, and connection.
Tired of bad news and how it is affecting you?
I sure am. I’m tired of having my sense of possibility hijacked by national and world events. I’m tired of relentless changes that are at odds with the values, people, and places I love. I’m tired of the debilitating doubt: What can we do? Can we do enough?
It’s Time for a Shift.
Today, I’m excited to introduce The Better Now Shift™ — a program based on the belief (and evidence) that resilience and progress must begin with emotional safety, evolve through inner strength and connection, and focus not on a distant future—but a better now.
In these times of rapid change and uncertainty, after all, it’s easy to slip into the belief that we’re merely bystanders to a world of trouble.
The Better Now Shift builds on the idea that we deserve better than that. By focusing on the growth of self-agency and capacity building for our changing world, we can feel better and do better.
This is about recognizing the small shifts—in how we see the world, how we show up, and how we connect—that can spark meaningful change for us as individuals, teams, families, and organizations alike.
More Than a Mood, a Methodology
The Better Now Shift is not about blind optimism. Psychological bypassing. Or manufacturing a momentary mood shift.
It’s a methodology, a mindset, and, in time I hope, a movement designed to develop five shifts that build upon each other:
The Stability Shift. When change is constant, it’s easy to slip into survival mode—reacting instead of responding, pushing through instead of pausing. Over time, that takes a toll. The Stability Shift focuses on building the steady foundation we need to face uncertainty with strength and resilience.
The Clarity Shift. These days, it’s not just information overload—it’s everything overload. The Clarity Shift is about stepping out of that swirl by tapping into tools and strategies to help us think more clearly, feel less overwhelmed, and focus our energy where it can make the greatest difference, without burning out.
The Courage Shift. Fear seems to be everywhere now, quietly shaping how we think, respond, and show up. The Courage Shift looks at how fear shapes our thinking, behavior, and sense of what’s possible—and how we can work with it: building the emotional capacity to stay present, think clearly, and respond intentionally .
The Connection Shift. When life feels uncertain and complex, disconnection is a common response. Yet research shows that when we connect with others, challenges start to feel smaller and more manageable. The Connection Shift is about strengthening this powerful tool to build trust, resilience, and collective capacity.
The Impact Shift. While navigating constant change and complexity, impact can feel elusive—or reserved for people with more power, time, or resources. But real impact often starts with small moments: how we show up, how we lead, and how we respond. The Impact Shift explores the potential in these moments. It also examines how the cumulative shifts in stability, clarity, courage, and connection leads to something that looks a lot like ordinary heroism in extraordinary times.
